Perthshire and Central Highlands Tour- 3 Days
Journey into the heart of Scotland's most enchanting region, where Highland peaks meet ancient forests and crystal-clear rivers tumble through historic glens. This three-day exploration of Perthshire and the Central Highlands reveals a side of Scotland that many visitors never discover – a land of whisky artisans, Highland monarchs, and wild mountain landscapes.
This tour is best started from the central belt- but don’t worry- we can tweak it to suit your needs and starting point!
Throughout your adventure, you'll travel in comfort in our luxury vehicle, complete with a curated onboard bar featuring some rare and exceptional drams I've collected over my years in the industry. And for those seeking Scotland's other national drink, we keep well-stocked with both classic and diet Irn Bru!
Day One
Morning: Ancient Coronation Grounds
Your journey begins from Edinburgh or Glasgow, swiftly reaching Scone Palace – the crowning place of Scottish kings. Here, discover centuries of royal history as you explore the palace's opulent rooms and wander through gardens where peacocks roam beneath ancient trees.
Afternoon: The Hermitage to Highland Perthshire
Our route takes us north to the magnificent Hermitage, where some of Scotland's tallest trees guard the thundering Black Linn Falls. Here, adventurous souls can enjoy a wild swimming opportunity in the crystal-clear pools (weather permitting), while others capture the perfect woodland photographs.
Evening in Pitlochry
Arrive in the Victorian spa town of Pitlochry for a late lunch at the award-winning Jessie's Kitchen, crowned Perthshire's best café in 2024. Following lunch, we'll visit Blair Athol Distillery for an insight into Highland whisky crafting. Your evening is free to explore Pitlochry's charming streets, perhaps enjoying dinner at one of the town's excellent restaurants or catching a show at the famous Festival Theatre.
Day Two
Morning: Queen's View and Hidden Lochs
Begin with a visit to Queen's View, one of Scotland's most breathtaking vantage points overlooking Loch Tummel. The magnificent vista stretches towards the distinctive peak of Schiehallion, known as the 'Fairy Hill of the Caledonians'.
Afternoon: Remote Rannoch
Journey into one of Scotland's last true wilderness areas, following the road to Kinloch Rannoch where mountains meet water. Continue to the remote Rannoch Station, where the railway meets the vast expanse of Rannoch Moor - one of Europe's last remaining wildernesses. This is a photographer's paradise and a place where you can truly feel the solitude of the Highlands.
Evening in Aberfeldy
End your day in the market town of Aberfeldy, where the River Tay flows past your doorstep. This charming Highland town offers excellent dining options and traditional Scottish pubs where you might catch some local music.
Day Three
Morning: Loch Tay Heritage
Visit the fascinating Scottish Crannog Centre on Loch Tay, where you'll step 2,500 years back in time to discover how our ancestors lived on these waters. This remarkable reconstruction of an ancient loch-dwelling provides fascinating insights into Iron Age life.
Afternoon: The Road Home
Our return journey takes us through the dramatic Sma' Glen, a spectacular pass that was once a favorite hiding place of Highland outlaws. Here, the landscape tells tales of cattle drovers, Roman legions, and clan skirmishes, providing a fitting finale to your Highland adventure.
